KEMPTON CORPORATE CLOTHING - ARMOUR & BALLISTIC PROTECTION DIVISION

Fortis Range of Armour and Ballistic Protection from Kempton Clothing

Kempton's Armour and Ballistics Division has developed a unique range of technically advanced, lightweight, protective body armour. Fortis® Armour, Armoured Jackets and Vests have undergone a series of qualification and certification tests to meet specific armour and body armour standards of police and military users worldwide.

(US NIJ and UK HOSDB). We offer Body Armour for Overt Protection, Covert Protection, Rifle Plates, Stab Vests, Military Body Armor, Floatation Armour, and Body Armour for Civilians.

BODY ARMOUR - MILITARY

Can be supplied with additional protection – bicep, groin, collar/throat. Side plate pocket options available. Can be supplied with molle system webbing. Used by standard military units and SF. Waterproof for life.

For military use the Fortis® Armour range of overt body armour jackets is designed to protect against Fragmentation. Such jackets are capable of including 'Hard Armour' insert plates to defend against High-Velocity Rifle Attacks. Fragmentation protection exceeds the NATO minimum standard for personal armour, and high-velocity rifle protection conforms to HOSDB RF1 and NIJ Level III and IV and German Schutzklasse IV and V. Fortis military level armour is qualified to HG2/KR2/SP2 and NIJ IIIA.

Options available with the armour are collar protection, groin protectors and bicep protection, also with molle system options. For an explanation of body armour protection levels and body armour standards please refer to our Risk/Threat Assessment page >

Fortis military armour jackets can be tailored to suit individual customer requirements for outer fabrics, pockets, pouches, styles and insignia.

BODY ARMOUR - OVERT PROTECTION

Available as a ballistic vest or as a stab/spike resistant vest. The carrier can be a zip front style or tabard (over the head).

Both styles provides front, back and side protection with adjustment at the shoulder and sides. The tabard style gives additional over-the-shoulder protection and greater side coverage and can also be supplied with a plate pocket front and back to take a hard armour insert plate (HAP) to upgrade protection to Level IV.

The Fortis® Armour  range of overt body armour jackets is designed to protect against

  • Ballistic attack (including blunt-trauma)
  • Stabbing attack (including knives, spikes and needles)
  • Fragmentation (from exploding devices)
  • Blunt injury (from blows to the body).

Fortis® body armour is qualified to HOSDB HG2/KR2/SP2 and carries the coveted Four-Star weight-rating. Additionally, the armour inside the jacket will assist in:

  • Reducing blunt-trauma injury
  • Maintaining protection when wet
  • Defeating burst-fire from sub machineguns such as the UZI

HOSDB HG2/KR2/SP2 armour is typically for armed-response police officers and Special Forces exposed to the highest threats. Fortis® HG1/KR1/SP1 overt body armour jacket is suitable for patrol officers exposed to lesser threats. Vests and jackets are also available certified to the US NIJ IIIA standards. Fortis® overt body armour jackets can be tailored to suit individual customer requirements for outer fabrics, pockets, pouches, sizes, styles and insignia.

BODY ARMOUR - COVERT PROTECTION

Covert or Concealable Armour - Available as a ballistic vest or as a stab/spike resistant vest, this lightweight style provides front, back and side protection with adjustment at the shoulder and sides. It can also be supplied with a plate pocket front and back to take a hard armour insert plate (HAP).

The Fortis® Armour range of covert body armour vests are designed to protect against:

  • Ballistic attack (including 'blunt-trauma')
  • Stabbing attack (including knives, spikes and needles)

Protection levels typically available in the covert body armour category are:

  • KR1 / SP1
  • HG1 / KR1 / SP1
  • HG2 / KR2 / SP2
  • NIJ IIIA

Styles are either covert (concealed under the clothing) or overt (worn over the clothing). With covert styles, you can’t tell a person is wearing body armour, but some wearers find them less comfortable as they’re worn closer to the skin. Overt styles are easier to put on and take off, and potentially more comfortable, but can present the wrong image for certain job roles.

COVERT

  • White or Black

  • Discreet protection – when worn under the clothing our thin, lightweight highly flexible armour is totally concealed

  • Can also be worn over light clothing if preferred, as an overt style

  • Fully adjustable at shoulders & sides, giving maximum comfort levels

  • Heat management system - maximizes airflow, draws sweat & moisture away from the body

  • We recommend our Cool Dry T-Shirt for wear underneath this vest

 Waistcoat

  • Black
  • Very smart look – looks like a waistcoat – the fact that the wearer is wearing body armour is not obvious
  • Multiple adjustment points, offering superb comfort levels
  • Heat management system - maximizes airflow, draws sweat & moisture away from the body

BODY ARMOUR - STAB VEST

The Fortis Stab Vest protects the vital inner body parts from low-to-medium force stabs, thrusts, cuts & blows or attacks with sharp, edged or spiked weapons, including hypodermic syringes.

The Fortis Stab Vest has been tested and certified to the United Kingdom's strict Home Office Police & Scientific Development Branch Standard KR1+SP1 and is CE marked.

  • Unisex design

  • Lightweight

  • Extremely flexible outer cover with special liner giving enhanced body cooling properties

  • Available as a covert or overt version

Firearms are certainly dangerous, but contrary to the wide perception knives can be as lethal. Even worse, knives are a more common threat weapon and as such the risk of a potentially deadly attack with knives is much higher. Until now manufacturers developed effective protective solutions against firearms, but ballistic protection is not capable of stopping knives. This can be solved with the Fortis Stab Vest and Fortis Dual Purpose Body Armour.

Home Office Body Armour Standards (HOSDB Home Office Police & Scientific Development Branch)

KR1 or KR1+SP1 Tested at a performance level of 24 joules of energy. Armour at this level should offer maximum periods of wear in standard risk patrolling environments and would also be suitable for covert use.

KR2 or KR2+SP2 A medium protection level, which is tested at a performance level of 33 joules. This level should provide for a general duty garment for tactical response teams and special forces.

Due to their higher velocity bullets have much higher strike energy than knives. However because of the very small effective diameter or area in which knives have to be stopped, the energy density for knives is much higher. This clearly indicates the threat level imposed by knives or edged weapons.

BODY ARMOUR - FLOTATION ARMOUR

The Fortis range of armoured buoyancy jackets and armoured inflatable lifejackets is designed for use by law enforcement and military personnel on operations such as pursuing, boarding and searching ships, and arresting and escorting ships to port. Deck operations and boardings can lead to personnel falling into the sea and drenching their armour.

An essential requirement for body armour for maritime use is that the internal armour retains its ballistic-resistance properties while wet. Using state-of-the-art armour materials, the performance of the Fortis armoured buoyancy jacket is unaffected by moisture.

Fortis armoured buoyancy jackets have sufficient inherent buoyancy (up to 100 Newtons) to aid survival in calm, ocean and coastal waters and inland waterways. Jackets are fitted with closed-cell vinyl-nitrile buoyancy foam.

Fortis armoured inflatable jackets have sufficient buoyancy (up to 275 Newtons) to aid survival of unconscious wearers in deep ocean waters. Jackets are fitted with inflatable collars.

Fortis Flotation Armour protects against:

  • Ballistic attack (including 'blunt-trauma')
  • Stabbing attack (including knives, spikes and needles)
  • Fragmentation (from exploding devices)
  • Blunt injury (from blows to the body)

Fortis Flotation Armour has been qualified to HOSDB HG2 / KR2 / SP2 and NIJ IIIA.  Fortis Flotation Armour carries the coveted Four-Star weight-rating and the jackets can be tailored to suit individual customer requirements for outer fabrics, pockets, pouches, styles and insignia.

Armour constructions utilise the latest ultra-high tensile fibres and thermoplastic composite armour material which provide protection from multi-threat and violent attacks. While some soft armour materials lose their defensive capabilities when wet, the composite armour from Kempton, for wet and humid conditions, retains all its defensive capabilities, even when wet or soaked in water.
