The Jt CBRN Regt was created in 1999 and is based at RAF Honington, Suffolk. The Regiment is composed of two squadrons from 1 RTR and 27 Sqn RAF Regiment plus supporting staff from other army units.

The Jt CBRN Regt fields specialist CBRN defence equipment, specifically the Fuchs Nuclear and Chemical Reconnaissance and Survey vehicle, the Integrated Biological Detection System (IBDS) and the Multi-Purpose Decontamination System (MPDS). The Regiment is an essential element for any joint force operation where there is an CBRN threat, enhancing the integral CBRN defence capabilities of the remainder of the force. Not only does the Regiment support Army formations but also other vital assets such as air bases, logistic areas and key lines of communication.

In peace the Army may be asked to provide Military Assistance to the Civil Authorities. In these circumstances, the Joint CBRN Regiment may be called on to deal with radiological, biological or chemical hazards.

The Regiment has made a major contribution to almost every UK military operation during the past decade.
