The planned size of the mobilisation (wartime)
structure is 16,000 personnel which includes about 8,000 from
the Voluntary Defence League.
Conscription
Conscripts serve for between 8 to 11 months, depending on the
education and role. Following conscript service personnel are
called up for a short period of reserve training every five
years.
Estonia is a participant in the Nordic Battle Group which has
other contingents from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Ireland.

Navy Strength:
approximately 300 personnel
The Estonian Navy is responsible for protecting the territorial waters
of the Republic of Estonia and cooperation with the Baltic Naval
Squadron.
The Baltic Naval Squadron - BALTRON was inaugurated in 1998. The
main responsibility of BALTRON is to improve the co-operation
between the Baltic States in the areas of naval defence and
security. Constant readiness to contribute units to NATO-led
operations is assured through BALTRON. Each Baltic state appoints
one or two ships to BALTRON for certain period and staff members for
one year.
There are bases at Tallinn and Miinisadam.

Outline Air Force Structure:
The small Estonian Air Force was
re-established in December 1991 and consists of three units; Air
Force Headquarters, the Ämari Air Base and Air Surveillance Wing. The Air Force Headquarters has the Air Force Command and
Control Centre included in its structure. The Command and Control
Centre analyses the Air Force missions, manages the airspace, plans
and controls the air defence, air attack and air transport flight
operations.
The air surveillance system is currently being enhanced with the
installation of the TPS-117 long-range primary radar.
